21-year-old Kintaro Hattori started Seiko watches in 1881. Initially, it did not start as a watch manufacturing company but as a swiss watch trading company. Seiko manufactures its watches through two companies, Daini Siekosha and Suwa Siekosha, which work on an internally-competitive basis. Seiko launched its first chronometer in 1963, called the Seiko 951, after collaborating with Timex and Elgin. Seiko sold the first-ever electromechanical wristwatch in 1969. The first-ever commercially available quartz watch from Seiko was called the Calibre 35 or the Calibre 3500 and was manufactured in 1969.
